The Stranger

Dear readers,

We need your help. The coronavirus crisis in Seattle is a major threat to The Stranger's ability to keep the city informed. We pride ourselves on having navigated many storms in the world of independent local media, but this time is different.

90% of our revenue—from advertising, ticketing fees, and our own events—is directly tied to people getting together in groups. The coronavirus situation has virtually eliminated this income all at once. At a time when the city needs local coverage more than ever, we're asking for your help to support continued coverage of everything happening in Seattle. You can make one-time or recurring donations. We can't say enough how much we appreciate your support. Thank you.

Former Lark chef de cuisine (and two-time Cochon555 winner) Mitch Mayers has opened his own restaurant in the former space of Kickin’ Boot Whiskey Kitchen in Ballard. Named in tribute to the building's previous life as a sawmill, Sawyer offers an extensive menu with a playful, elevated-casual take on new American comfort fare, with dishes like oxtail nachos; a Reuben tartine; shareable porchetta with an assortment of flatbreads and condiments; fancy choco tacos; and ice cream bars of cookie dough semifreddo covered in Theo chocolate—swoon.

Make Sawyer reservations here.     You can now get menu items from Sawyer's playful, elevated-casual New American comfort fare menu at home. Their menu changes daily—past items have included gnocchi, pulled pork sandwiches, and choco tacos. On Sunday, they also had a takeout brunch menu (cinnamon roll monkey bread, anyone?), so keep your eyes peeled for future brunch specials to go. Orders can be placed through the Toast app for pickup between 4-8 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays and 10-2 pm on Sundays. See more details here.
