"Join Pamela Lavitt, Director of Arts + Ideas and Festivals, for a conversation about Yiddish cinema then and now, pop culture, and Jewish projections on screen.
Some 130 full-length motion pictures and 30 short ones were produced during the halcyon heydays of Yiddish cinema, between 1911 and 1940. After WWII, Yiddish film almost disappeared due to the Holocaust and the linguistic acculturation of Jewish immigrants to the US and the ascendancy of Hebrew as Israel’s and the new Jew’s national tongue."
