As mysterious deaths multiply in the hospital, a medical examiner at the morgue tries to solve the mystery of a vanished corpse. This film's deliberately ugly surfaces—monochromatic hospital corridors, degraded city streets, McMansions that recall the neighborhoods of It Follows—deepen the bleakness while accentuating the humanity of mentally ill people and those trying to help them. Best of all, The Dead Center'll make you hide your eyes despite the simple special effects.
