Ghostbusters (2016)
We all know this reboot of the 1984 mega blockbuster could be a completely misbegotten disaster. But if it is, it won’t be because the stars are women, you massive sexist. The case for seeing it: Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, director Paul Feig, curiosity. Against: Corporate America is actively trying to drink your blood. But in this barren event-movie landscape, I’m rooting for curiosity. Sometimes the intersection of four of the funniest actors alive and a brilliant comedic director working within constraints to redress the gender differential on a beloved fundament of nerd culture is a pretty cool hand. And if it sucks? Well, guess what: The original also sucked, but that didn’t stop it from being great.
UPDATE: The reboot is not only not a disaster, It's better and funnier than the original.
