The historic Nippon Kan Theatre is located in the International District. It represents a rich history of Japanese-American culture in Seattle. It was originally built in 1909 as a hotel and was closed during the internment of Japanese Americans during World War Two. However it was reopened in the 1980's through the efforts of art-loving couple, Edward and Betty Burke.
