Patrick Carney’s iconic public art installation atop Twin Peaks, reconstructed every year for San Francisco's Pride celebration, will be augmented this year by Illuminate, the nonprofit behind the Bay Lights, causing it to shine with 2,700 LED nodes of pink light. It'll be visible from Oakland Hills, outer space, and online. Why a pink triangle? The organizers explain that Nazis used the symbol to identify and shame gay people in concentration camps during the Holocaust, and that it has since been reclaimed by the LGBTQ+ community as a symbol of pride.
